She is the recipient of the 2018 Southern Africa Association for the Advancement of Science medal from the University of KwaZulu-Natal for her master's research on melanin as a photoprotective pigment in lichen species. Subsequently, her doctoral research focused on the impact of climate change, particularly changes in rainfall seasonality on potential dominance of warm-season grass species in Mediterranean-type ecosystems.
She believes her expertise in biological sciences has positioned her well for Rights of Nature initiatives, and she aims to advance this movement throughout Africa.
